The World

Set in a familiar Long Island suburb where everyone knows everyone's business, Back Where We Started follows six twenty-somethings navigating the awkward reality of returning home. Between living with their parents, running into old classmates, and trying to figure out what comes next, they discover that the place they couldn't wait to leave might be exactly where they need to be.

Tone and inspiration

A warm, character-driven ensemble comedy that balances sharp dialogue, chaotic friendships, and the occasional existential crisis. Inspired by the humor and relationships of Friends, New Girl, and Schitt's Creek, the series finds comedy in the uncomfortable and very relatable experience of figuring out adulthood in your twenty-somethings.

Meet the characters

Fresh out of college and back home to “save money,” Sal insists he has bigger plans than working at his family's auto body shop. But when he's roped into helping out temporarily, he finds himself becoming the one person everyone relies on. He's great at taking care of everyone else, but figuring out his own future? That's another story.

A Harvard graduate who's spent her entire life doing everything right, Anna shocks her family when she walks away from a promising medical career and moves back home. After years of following a carefully mapped-out plan, she's suddenly without one. For someone who's always had the answers, not knowing what comes next will be her biggest challenge yet.

Brilliant but painfully awkward, Ray has spent most of his life keeping people at arm's length. He claims he's back home to take care of his mother while building a digital empire from his childhood basement, but the truth is, he might need her more than she needs him. Beneath his unintentionally arrogant exterior is a guy with a big heart who's terrified of letting anyone close enough to see it.

Bliss had everything she'd ever wanted: a big-city career, a beautiful apartment, and a boyfriend who seemed perfect. Until he wasn't. After discovering he cheated on her, she trades her picture perfect life for her childhood bedroom, where she's forced to confront the uncomfortable reality that looking like you have it all together isn't the same as actually having it together.

A lovable former frat boy who never quite got the memo that college ended, Cooper approaches adulthood with the same confidence he brings to his questionable pickup lines. He's disorganized, overconfident, and rarely takes anything seriously. But beneath the antics is a surprisingly loyal friend who occasionally gives advice that's actually worth listening to.

Chronically late, unapologetically loud, and somehow always at the center of the chaos, Gigi has a talent for turning ordinary situations into complete disasters. She's impulsive, flirtatious, and rarely thinks before she speaks, but she's also fiercely loyal. Her own life might be a mess, but she'll drop everything to help a friend, even if her version of helping makes things significantly worse.

Behind the project

I began developing Back Where We Started during a six-week television writing workshop at Upright Citizens Brigade, where I explored character development, participated in collaborative writers' rooms, shared work with fellow writers, and revised drafts based on feedback.

The pilot is currently in progress.
